Statement from the Artist:

I explore functional, decorative, and wearable forms of glass art. Each piece I make has unique characteristics since they are individually handcrafted. Living in the Pacific Northwest my whole life has given me a curiosity about the life and death of the natural wildlife in the region. Through this lens, I explore various ocean and western wildlife narratives concentrating on color and texture.

My work is inspired by historical figures like the German zoologist Ernst Haeckel's scientific illustrations, the Blaschka family's biological and flower glass models, and Georgia O'Keeffe's New Mexico paintings. In addition, contemporary artists such as Shayna Leib, Amber Cowen, Steffen Dam, and Mark Dion influence me with their presentations and use of color, texture, movement, and scale.

Kylee Koenig-STEPHENS | Owner, Artist

Kylee is an interdisciplinary artist living in Boise, Idaho. She graduated from Boise State University in 2015, earning a BFA with an emphasis in Printmaking. While earning her bachelor's, Kylee took on an apprenticeship at a local glass studio, learning the basics of lampworking. 2010 she established Torched Glassworks LLC to pursue her newfound love for glass. Today she continues to explore glass's endless possibilities while testing its boundaries.

Kylee has been an art educator for over ten years, teaching glassblowing classes to all ages and volunteering as the art parent in her son's classroom. Her love for teaching and working with young people inspired Kylee to earn a MiT in 2021 and become certified to teach K-12 art education. She is enthusiastic about the opportunity of serving students and guiding them as they grow, learn, and create their future.

Her artwork is at select galleries, stores, and Art Fairs in the Northwest. Storefronts in the Boise area that sell her work are Lark and Larder and Delia Dante Gallery.
